About the Artist
I have always felt the need to create and finally, as an adult, found my way into the visual arts. I have worked in a variety of mediums for over 20 years including acrylic and colored pencil but definitely found my home in watercolor and then more recently, in alcohol inks.
As a self-taught Calgary artist, I love watching water and paint mingle on the page and love doing large abstract (-ish) florals. Watercolors let me have my sense of control over the paint and a piece of art that takes time and commitment to complete. The flow, the movement, the shadows, the highlights - all capture my attention. I love starting with several reference photos from my own stash and usually end up putting those aside and letting the painting guide me where it wants to go.
During the Covid-19 outbreak in 2019/2020, I struggled with what I like to call "isolation induced ADD" and jumped in with both feet into alcohol inks. Working with alcohol inks has forced me to be more free, more loose and to truly enjoy what is appearing on the page and to paint faster, looser and with less intention and a more "in the moment" attitude. Alcohol inks have given me the freedom to experiment and paint more for the experience and worry less about the end result - exactly what I needed at this uncertain time.
Alternating between watercolors and alcohol inks is the best of both worlds but you will also often find me in my studio doodling with colored pencils or working on smaller watercolor and ink pieces of various subjects from flowers to landscapes to urban art or even just the Starbucks cup sitting in my studio (I have a serious Starbucks addiction!).
Sit back, grab a cup of coffee (or wine) and browse through my gallery. More images will be coming soon.
Oh! And while I am shamelessly promoting myself, I hope you will take a second to like my Facebook page and follow me on Instagram.
